In spite of reading some pretty scary reviews for this property, we decided to book a room for 1 night at the Anchorage since we were attending a Halloween party and didn’t want to have to drive back to New York State late at night after partying. Currently, hotel rooms in the Burlington area are very expensive, so we chose the Anchorage as it was the most reasonable of the available choices (it wasn’t a great value for what you got, but it was the best value considering all available choices). To be honest, we could find money in our budget for a more expensive property, but who wants to waste money for 8 hours of sleep and a shower? That being said, we found the property to be just fine for our needs. Make no mistake, the property is quite old/worn out and the rooms are desperately in need of renovation (the tub and toilet were Harvest Gold from the 1970’s); however, it was clean (as clean as stuff from the 70’s can get), the towels and sheets were clean and soft, the heat and AC worked well (units looked very new), and the bed was surprisingly comfy. Room had good darkening drapes, and it was extremely quiet…we actually slept really well! Last but not least, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful (we asked for a few extra hand towels and the front desk girl immediately went and got them for us and delivered them with a smile). Parking was convenient and the location of the hotel was quite convenient (literally minutes from I-89, close to downtown, close to the airport, etc…). Ok…we wouldn’t book the Anchorage for our next extended vacation, but for a quick overnight to make life more convenient, it was just fine.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. We were able to extend our stay by one night without any issues because of a spring blizzard that lasted longer than expected, and we were uncomfortable with the two hour drive home in the height of the heavy snow. We are Seniors, and both of us have mobility issues. Although there is no elevator at the Inn, the young woman at the front desk put us in a room that was very close to an entrance with only 7 steps to navigate. When we were in the lobby trying to figure out how we could get some dinner, the young woman at the desk was so very nice to us in explaining how we could have food delivered via the Door Dash app or Uber Eats app rather than trying to drive through an April blizzard to find something for dinner. The Inn and the room was clean and easily accessible! Deluxe queen room contained a microwave, small fridge, table and was quite roomy! Coffee was available at all times, donuts and muffins were available in the morning and there was also an ice machine in the room behind the coffee area. There was also an indoor pool, and apparently a gym area as well.

We came for the natural history conference, and enjoyed the peaceful nature of the hotel. It was much more quiet than I would have guessed based on its proximity to the highway and busy street. Beds were very comfortable and key entries worked easily. Availability of a safe was nice feature for laptops and the refrigerator was handy and quiet. The room was very spacious allowing us to spread out our materials for study. Temperature in room was about right. Access to the University and nearby conference was a short walk and access by car to the hotel was very easy. Lots of shops very close to the hotel and the IHOP across the road provided a good breakfast. WiFi worked well.

I travel many years but it is only the second time when my personal experience differs greatly from the rating at booking.com. The facility is definitely old and requires innovation, however, it was cleaned well, the linens were fresh and clean, I did not find any insects, the room was big, everything was comfortable, the personnel was very polite and helpful. So, the stay was nice. The location is very convenient to get from the airport and further to the downtown. The hotel is not the best of the best but there are lot similar hotels in Europe and that one in my opinion deserves much better score than it has now.

The room and facilities were clean and well cared for. It’s not brand new or fancy smancy but it was comfortable, clean and had all the things we needed for our stay. The only down side was the stairs and how they are situated. My husband is disabled so the stair were hard on him. No elevator available. Looks like it was a nice place back in the day but it’s just a bit dated. Overall we were satisfied with the room, the price and its closeness to the hospital.
